Stop yet ANOTHER abortion ban
Hi Texas team,
As if you didnât have enough to worry about already with the new maps, now the TX legislature is literally trying to sneak through a FOURTH abortion ban in the state. The first three have already caused irreversible harm and even death to many mothers and infants, yet they are quadrupling down on a new law that would turn neighbors into bounty hunters, reduce medicines needed for emergency maternal care, and erode basic maternal care for everyone there.
It makes me incredibly sad (and angry) to see the statistics on these harms since the three abortion bans took effect:
56% in Maternal Deaths (vs 11% nationally)
23% in Neonatal Deaths (while US rates declined)
70% of OB-GYNs say bans prevent high quality care.
Nearly 1 in 10 births happen in TX yet the state ranks 49-50th in reproductive healthcare access and coverage.
And now, lawmakers are ramming through SB7 and HB7 - the fourth anti-abortion law and keeping it as secret as they can by withholding public notice (SB7) or severely limiting any public comment (HB7).
As if further risking womenâs live and health werenât atrocious enough, this bill would actually pay âsnitchesâ no less than $100,000 and weaponize the judicial system with malicious and frivolous lawsuits.
Folks, this is all happening RIGHT NOW under our noses. So action is crucial!
CALL YOUR LEGISLATORS - look up numbers here.
SCRIPT: (Note SB7 refers to your state senator. HB7 refers to your state house representative)
Hi. My name is [name] calling from [zip code] to tell [legislator name] that Texas does not need a 4th abortion ban. Tell them I expect a NO vote on SB7/HB7. The other 3 abortion ban laws are already killing mothers and causing irreparable harm. It is horrific to pass a law that actually encourages and rewards people for sticking their noses in womenâs private business. Let [legislator name] know that if they do not vote NO on SB7/HB7, they will lose my vote and I will do everything in my power to unseat them in future elections.
For all the details and info on this, check out this toolkit provided by #TXBanWeek.
The time is now to make an impact during the remainder of this week through September 1. You can leave messages over the weekend too. They get counted!
Until next time,
Jess and Andrea (who helps with state newsletters)

Thank you SO much, Jess!!! The folks trying to do this are truly perverse!!!
I wrote to my Rep & Sen - - I expect a NO vote on SB7/HB7. The other 3 abortion ban laws are already killing mothers and causing irreparable harm. It is horrific to pass a law that actually encourages and rewards people for sticking their noses in womenâs private business. This bill will weaponize the judicial system with malicious and frivolous lawsuits. I am also opposed to any measures to restrict the use of Mifepristone, a safe drug that can be used to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. These choices should be made by a woman. It is her body, not the state's.
